HGP NEWSLETTER  -  January, 2011

Dear Member:

The year is almost over so it is time to look forward to the 2011 season.  After all, “Racing is life; everything else is just waiting . . .”    right?!?

Before we talk about our next season, we wish to formally recognize our own Charles Nearburg for his recent outstanding achievement at Bonneville by setting a new World FiA Land Speed Record. On September 21, 2010 the “Spirit of Rett” made two phenomenal speed runs. The average speed of approximately 414.4 MPH exceeded the 45 year old Summers brothers’ Goldenrod record set when Charles was 15 years old.  The “Spirit of Rett” now has the fastest single engine car record in history.

Many of you have inquired after next year’s season.  We have been working very hard on securing a couple of premier venues including the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 15-17 and a return to the Grand Prix du Canada in Montreal, June 10-12.  Both venues, we feel, are very important for HGP in visibility and in providing the very best in racing entertainment for you, your families and friends.  These venues are still unconfirmed, but again, we are working very hard to get the commitments needed to move forward in placing these events on our schedule.

In the meantime, we can confirm our season will likely see the return of HGP to the Barber Motorsports Park, May 21-22 with HMP/Legends of Motorsport as well as the very popular Circuit Mt. Tremblant, July 8-10, also with HMP/Legends of Motorsport.  For certain, HGP will return to the Kohler Int’l Challenge at Road America July 15-17.  Other venues are being considered, but are not yet firm.  We have been invited by Steve Earle to be part of the Wine Country Classic, which awkwardly is the weekend prior to the Canadian Grand Prix, which puts us between the proverbial “rock and a hard place”.  Similarly, Skip Barber and Murray Smith very much would like us to return to Lime Rock, but we are facing similar challenges with dates.  In addition, we are in productive discussions with both S.C.R.A.M.P. for The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and Infineon with the IRL.   Obviously, this prospective array is a larger meal than our collective appetite of 5-6 events per season.

In summary, we hope to have all of this firmly organized and committed by end of November.  We appreciate your patience and understanding while we form the best possible schedule and venues for you.  Your opinion is of utmost importance to us, and now is the time to get it on the table so we know how you feel.  Please e-mail us at:

Please copy all three of us as your opinion is important to each of us and we can therefore contemplate it carefully.

With warm regards for a lovely autumn season,

Rebecca    Phil    James
